All eyes across the world are of course on the USA at the moment, thanks to the FIFA World Cup and all of the excitement, the revelry, the global cooperation it has brought in the last few weeks. England fans have been out in Dallas, taking in the southern hospitality and culture already, even heading to their derby nights and bull riding rodeos for what became a series of viral videos online.
Coming on home to the UK, the want for more of that southern culture has not been lost, even here in Maidstone. Wanting more, MidKent College here in Maidstone put on a massive western and country themed day for their students. To add to the western feel of the party, the MidKent organisers came to the best rustic, western style caterer in town: Hog Roast Maidstone.
While we typically specialise in British style hog roasts, one of our most popular summer menus comes straight from stateside, as we have adopted our very own take on the southern slow roast – a form of barbecue dining popular in the American southern states. Unlike our barbecues, the dining has a more rustic feel with far more onus on spice and smoky flavours, and meat that is cooked for hours in a low and slow style, rather than thrown on a grill to be cooked in minutes.
Our southern slow roast is about as authentic as it gets here in the UK, so of course MidKent College were right to come to Hog Roast Maidstone. Our style of catering also lends itself to massive groups, all without a loss of quality in the name of quantity. Even with a whopping 450 guests due to attend, our service and servings were not going to suffer whatsoever.
With our many mobile roasting machines, the Hog Roast Maidstone chef’s team began early in the day to set our BBQ pork butt, Texan beef brisket, and Cajun spiced chicken to cook low and slow in time for a 12.30 serving time. Guests were free to come and grab our meats, our spicy hot sauces and smoky barbecue glazes, and our cooling sides throughout the day. In what was already an excellent themed occasion, our dining just added one more token to the day that really helped create that authentic country western feel!
